Gardaí say the village was brought to a halt with "traffic chaos" because of the fire.

The fire began shortly after 1pm on Saturday in a thatched cottage across from the local church.

Six fire trucks and three water tankers attended the scene.

It is currently unclear if anyone was in the cottage at the time the fire broke out, however there are no reports of any injuries.

The blaze took hold in a thatch cottage in Adare Village.

The cottages were built in the 1820's by the Dunraven family.
