Ticketing giant Ticketmaster has outlined the processes in place for events impacted by the COVID-19 crisis here in Ireland.

Speaking to Newstalk, a spokesperson for the company said some 500 shows will either be postponed or cancelled.

A statement issued by the company states: "While some events, unfortunately, have had to be cancelled, we are working with many of our event partners to see how best to reschedule each event for your enjoyment.

"As you can imagine, this takes time, so we truly appreciate your patience and understanding as we navigate this new territory."

Anyone with tickets for events in 2020 is being encouraged to visit Ticketmaster’s online , which shows if an event has been rescheduled, rescheduled with a new date or cancelled entirely.

Here are the steps the company is encouraging ticket holders to follow for each scenario:

  • For future events that are still scheduled, you’re all set. There’s nothing you need to do. If anything changes, we will contact you with updates.
  • If you purchased online and your event has been cancelled, there’s nothing you need to do – we will get in touch with you directly with more information. If you purchased your tickets from the box office or outlet, please return to your point of purchase.
  • If your event has been rescheduled, we are working with the event organiser to identify new dates, and we will contact you as soon as we have confirmation and more information this.

If consumers have tickets for an event that has been rescheduled but the new date does not suit, standard practice is for a refund to be issued.

Ticketmaster says: "In the unlikely event a show cancels, we'll always give you your money back.

"Alternatively, we can re-book you into the rescheduled date (if announced) and the timing fits with your plans."

Ticketmaster has warned that due to the high volume of enquiries, custromers are experiencing longer than normal wait times for a response to a customer query.
