The single vehicle crash happened at Middlemount, around 5kms outside Rathdowney.

A boy (16) - a nephew of one of them - is receiving treatment for non life-threatening injuries he sustained in the crash.

Local parish priest Father Martin Delaney says he is not thought to have been very seriously hurt.

"At all times it wasn't a life-threatening injury - and I spoke to his grandad yesterday and he was hoping that he would be released from hospital perhaps even today" he said.

"So we're hopeful that he would be OK" he added.

Local Councillor John King says prayers for all four were said at mass earlier.
