Three men remain in custody as part of the investigation into the murder of David Byrne, who was gunned down in Dublin three months ago.

Mr Byrne, a 33-year-old father of two from Crumlin, died after being shot a number of times at a boxing weigh-in at the Regency Hotel in Drumcondra.

His murder is believed to have sparked a feud between two gangs that has now claimed the lives of six men.

Patrick Hutch of Champions Avenue, Dublin 1, became the first person to be charged with the killing yesterday.

The 24-year-old is a brother of Gary Hutch, who was murdered in Spain last September.

After five days of questioning, the suspect was yesterday brought under armed guard before a special sitting of Dublin District Court.

Judge Hugh O’Donnell heard he made no reply after the murder charge was put to him.

Mr Hutch was given free legal aid and remanded in custody to appear in court again next week.

He will have to go to the High Court if he wants to apply for bail.
