Dylann Roof appears in court via video link

A 21-year-old white man accused of murdering nine people in a South Carolina church has appeared in court via video link.
Dylann Roof is accused of carrying out a shooting which killed nine people at the Emanuel African Episcopal Church on Thursday.

Roof stood quietly through the hearing, providing provided the judge with his name and address and saying he was unemployed.

JK Rowling wishes Berkeley survivor ‘a speedy recovery’ on Twitter

Harry Potter author JK Rowling has extended her best wishes and hopes of a speedy recovery to Clodagh Cogley.

The Twitter message came after an appeal by the brother of the Irish student, who was injured in the Berkeley tragedy.

Her brother Daragh had asked JK Rowling to contact his sister because she had been listening to Harry Potter audio books while recovering in hospital.

Former Clerys workers protest at office of new owners

A group of former workers from Clerys have protested outside the company that now owns the store in Dublin.

Around 30 staff, some of whom worked there for 40 years, held a demonstration outside the offices of Natrium at Harcourt Terrace.

The shop's new owner, Natrium, says it understands the concern over Clerys future - and says it plans to create over 1,000 new jobs at the site in the years ahead.
