"Not protests, but vigilante mobs" - a crowd of 200 descends on Roma home in Waterford

Anti-racism campaigners facing intimidation, Newstalk told

Over the weekend, several family members of a Roma family were evacuated from their home in Waterford after an angry mob called to their house threatening them. The incidents occurred on Saturday and Sunday night.

On Saturday evening, about 200 people arrived at a home on Manor Street which was occupied by a large Roma family, including toddlers and children. During the "protest", the windows were smashed and the doors broken in.

As tens of thousands are expected to take part in the national protest against water charges this weekend, many still argue that paying for water makes sense.

Water is considered a commodity in other European countries and the US and paying for metered water services through a separate charge is normal.

While there has been much criticism of the Government's handling of the introduction of the charges, the question over whether we should be paying for a clean water supply still remains.

The Health Minister Leo Varadkar says the communications campaign about the necessity for water charges "has not yet been won".

His comments come ahead of a series of protests against the fee around the country this weekend.

Apple cannot name their new smartwatch an 'iWatch' because the name has already been patented by an Irish-based company. The company is run by Italian  man Daniele Di Salvo, but is based in Athlone.

A video posted on YouTube by non-profit group Hollaback! is getting people around the world talking about “street harassment.”

The video shows a woman walking silently around New York City for ten hours wearing jeans and a T-shirt. As she walks a hidden camera records every step and every word spoken to her by the people she passed.
A software firm called Probendi bought the European trademark for the name back in 2008.
