Over the weekend, several family members of a Roma family were evacuated from their home in Waterford after an angry mob called to their house threatening them. The incidents occurred on Saturday and Sunday night.

On Saturday evening, about 200 people arrived at a home on Manor Street which was occupied by a large Roma family, including toddlers and children. During the "protest", the windows were smashed and the doors broken in.

On Sunday night, a similar crowd arrived at the house which was now empty.

Gardaí fear that other members of the community are under threat.

This morning, Shona Murray spoke to Newstalk Breakfast from Waterford and discussed the events that had transpired over the weekend.

She spoke to Seamus O’Brien, a member of Waterford Against Racism, who told her that there was a mixed crowd at the house. He also spoke about members of the community being intimidated for speaking out.

Meanwhile, immigrant groups have condemned a video which claimed to show the protest in Waterford. The Migrant Rights Centre tweeted last night calling it 'horrific'.
