One killed and three missing after massive explosion reported at Didcot Power Station

One person has been killed, three people are missing and five in hospital after a building collapsed at Didcot Power Station. A major incident has been declared after reports of a loud explosion at the site in south Oxfordshire around 4pm. Thames Valley Fire Control Service area manager Mat Carlile said a search was underway. The collapse happened at Didcot A, a disused oil and gas plant which is currently being demolished.

Michael Lowry to appeal High Court decision over alleged tax offences

Michael Lowry says he intends to appeal a High Court dismissal of his attempt to stop his trial for alleged tax offences. The case of the outgoing Independent TD was described as "devoid of any substance or merit and ultimately built on a foundation of sand". In dismissing Mr Lowry's action, Mr Justice Seamus Noonan said he had failed to identity any unlawfulness in his prosecution, had failed to demonstrate anything remotely improper in the conduct of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), and said the time to challenge the decision to prosecute had long since passed.

The final Leaders' Debate

The final live TV debate of the election campaign takes places tonight. The leaders of the four main parties will make their final pitch for votes on RTE's Primetime.
