Body found in canal identified as 33-year-old Dublin man

Gardaí have identified the body of a man found in a suitcase in a canal in Co Kildare.

Kenneth O’Brien, 33, was from Clondalkin in west Dublin.

His remains were discovered by youths walking along the canal bank on Saturday.

Mr O’Brien’s torso was found wrapped in a plastic bag inside in a suitcase in the Grand Canal at Ardclough on Friday.

One person in critical condition in Cork hospital after taking psychoactive substance

One person is in a critical condition in hospital in Cork - and five others are ill - after taking a psychoactive substance at a house party.

It is understood the seven party-goers ingested 2CB - a psychoactive substance - which is an ecstasy substitute.

The HSE's addiction services is warning people about the dangers of consuming ‘party pills’.

Companies turn down Newstalk's "Terminate the 8th" advertisement

A number of media owners have refused to run marketing advertisement for Newstalk's General Election campaign.

An advertisement which features an ultrasound scan of a foetus accompanied by the slogan "Time to terminate the 8th?" was deemed too provocative by some advertisers.

McGregor is attempting to make history as he fights Dos Anjos for the belt, and if he wins he would be the first fighter in the history of the UFC to simultaneously hold two belts in two different weight classes. 

In preparation for that task, McGregor has been hard at work in training, and took to Instagram to share a few clips of him going through his workouts.

Facebook to remind every Irish user to 'Check the Register'

Social media giant Facebook is launching an Irish voter registration reminder campaign.

People on Facebook in the Republic of the Ireland over the age of 18 will see a notification in their newsfeed from Wednesday, encouraging them to check the register.

Facebook says it hopes the reminder will increase the number of people registering to vote ahead of the upcoming general election.

Some 2.5 million people use Facebook in Ireland every month - and more than the 2.2 million voted in the 2011 general election, which was 70% of eligible voters.
