A teenager has been released without charge following an alleged stabbing in County Wexford.
On Saturday, a boy was taken to Wexford General Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, following an incident in Enniscorthy.
On Newstalk Breakfast, South East Radio producer Brónagh Gately said the alleged assault took place during a busy weekend for the town, with many people there to enjoy its annual Rockin' Food Festival.
“So, you can only imagine how busy it was,” she said.
“Gardaí say the alleged assault took place on the promenade by the playground, beside the Riverside Park Hotel.
“This is just a few hundred metres from the centre of town itself where the festival was.
“It was confirmed that four male youths were involved - including the alleged victim - and Gardaí say that they were all actually known to each other.”
Ms Gately added that the alleged assault began with punches before the teenager was stabbed.
“One male youth was arrested in connection with the incident and has since been released, pending referral to the Garda Youth Diversion and investigations remain ongoing,” she said.
