A teenager has died after a quad bike accident in County Laois, An Garda Síochána has confirmed. 

Officers were called to a wooded area near Ballyshanduff, Ballybrittas on Easter Sunday where two male youths had been involved in an accident. 

One was taken to Midlands Regional Hospital Portlaoise where he has since passed away.

The second was taken to Midlands Regional Hospital Tullamore where he has been treated for injuries that are thought to be non-life threatening.

Gardaí have asked for any witnesses to get in contact.
