A teenager is critically ill in hospital after falling from a balcony in Galway city last night.

The 19-year-old is believed to be from county Kerry and a first year student of NUIG.

However, the university say they've had no confirmation that the teenager does attend the college.

He fell from a third floor apartment balcony on the Headford Road shortly before half past eleven last night.

He was rushed to University Hospital before being transferred to Beaumont in Dublin.

No foul play is suspected.

Gardai are investigating the circumstances.
