A teenage boy has died in a car crash in County Sligo.

Gardaí said the teenager’s SUV veered off the road and crashed on the N17 at Ballinacarrow shortly after 8:15pm.

The teenager was pronounced dead at the scene.

Another man who was travelling in the car was assessed at the scene by emergency services but did not require immediate hospital treatment.

The road remains closed this morning as Gardaí prepare to carry out a forensic investigation.

Investigators are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

They are particularly interested in talking to anyone who was in the area at the time and may have video footage.

The local Coroner has been notified and a post-mortem will be arranged.
