Taoiseach to meet ministers to discuss Storm Frank

The Taoiseach will meet with members of all Government Deparments at Cabinet next week in the aftermath of storm Frank.

Enda Kenny has called for a co-ordinated response to the bad weather, and wants to know what's been done so far and what else we need to do to help flood victims.

It comes as the ESB has increased the flow of water through the Parteen Weir. The water in Lough Derg is expected to reach peak levels last seen in 2009.

The current rate of flow is 470 cubic metres per second, but it could be increased to 500 cubic metres per second in the coming days. The ESB will review the situation again tomorrow.

There is a 24-hour rainfall warning in effect today for parts of Leinster and Munster with up to 35 milimeters of rain expected to fall, turning heaviest on high ground.

Jim Casey from the Office of Public Works is warning that the River Shannon is continuing to rise:

Last month saw record rainfall levels record at 20 of Met Éireann's 25 weather stations.

Helen Faughnan from the Department of Social Protection says that support is being given to those hit by flooding to make sure they get the basics they need:
