Temperatures could hit 26C for the second day in a row today.

Yesterday was the hottest day of the year so far, with Shannon Airport recording a high of 26.2C.

Met Éireann is forecasting another hot one today – although cloud will thicken across the west and south this evening.

The forecaster said: “Mist, fog and low cloud will clear this morning to leave a largely dry day with spells of hazy sunshine.

“Maximum temperatures ranging 22C to 26C degrees with moderate southerly breezes, turning fresh along Atlantic coasts.”

It said the thickening cloud will bring some patchy rain to the northwest of the country this evening.

Met Éireann forecaster Emer Flood told Newstalk that some rain is also expected tonight and tomorrow.

“On Tuesday, there’s going to be some scattered outbreaks of rain and drizzle during the morning; however, during the afternoon on Tuesday, it will be brightening up with better spells of sunshine developing from the northwest as the day progresses.

“Even though it will be getting brighter and sunnier later on Tuesday, there is a change of air mass to a slightly fresher air mass, so it won’t be feeling quite as humid.”

Another humid night is on the way tonight with lowest temperatures of 14 to 17 degrees in a moderate southwest breeze.

Tomorrow’s temperatures are expected to reach 23C in moderate westerly breezes.
