There is a ‘sense of shock and disbelief’ in Donegal this morning after a 43-year man died in a workplace explosion yesterday.

Stephen Montgomery died after the explosion at a remote house in the Bloody Forelands area of Gweedore on Monday.

It is believed he was using heavy machinery to break up rocks on the site at the time of the explosion.

Gardaí sealed off the area following the accident and the Health and Safety Authority has also sent investigators to the site.

It remains unclear what caused the explosion and the army bomb disposal team is also investigating.

The 43-year-old was a married father-of-one adult child.

He was from the nearby village of Dunfanaghy.
