SIPTU is calling on the government to ensure that all options are explored to save jobs at Mount Carmel hospital in Dublin.
Provisional liquidators were appointed to Mount Carmel yesterday- with the expected loss of over 300 jobs.
An emergency meeting between the union and provisional liquidators took place yesterday evening to discuss the appointment.
The National Maternity Hospital says it's been in contact with medics at Mount Carmel to discuss contingency plans for the eventual closure of the private hospital.
Kevin Figgis, SIPTU Organiser, said the union is calling on all involved to explore options that might resolve the issue. He said:
“We believe that all options should be explored, there’s no doubt about it. The simple fact is that we believe there’s a responsibility here. We call on the minister, we call on the HSE, we call on the department of health, to ensure that every option was looked at.”
