She would have celebrated her 32nd birthday today and has featured heavily in the headlines over the last few months thanks to the documentary on her life but we sometimes forget with all the focus on her personal life how talented a singer Amy Winehouse really was.
By the time of her death, Amy had become bored performing the same old songs that she felt she could no longer connect with but her most honest performances of these were on stage with that raw, soul voice. It's devastating to think that a life of such heartbreak led to such beautiful music.
Here are seven of the best.
1. Back to Black
Probably the most heartbreaking of all of the Winehouse tracks on Back to Black was this number about the end of a relationship.
An acoustic guitar and a voice. Simple and brilliant.
2. Stronger than Me.
This performance on Jools Holland way back in 2003 really showed up her talent way before that beehive and the really heavy makeup.
3. Tears Dry on their Own
The standout upbeat track on Back to Black always got the crowd going and really showed off the range in Amy's voice. Pity the lyrics are so definite and finite.
This is an Other Voices appearance.
4. You Know I'm No Good
The show must go on.
The beginning of this particular track really shows up the effect that drugs and alcohol was having on the singer but from that opening bar? Pure magic.
5. I Love You More Than You'll Ever Know
Chills.
6. Valerie
Better than the original? Quite possibly.
7. Rehab
Live on David Letterman and the performance that captured the US.
Stunning.
