GAA referees in Roscommon are due to strike this weekend after one was allegedly assaulted at a match in Ballyforan.

All matches planned for the weekend have been cancelled and will be rescheduled for two weeks' time.

Footage of the event that circulated online appeared to show the referee on the ground and he reportedly required medical attention afterwards.

In a statement, Roscommon GAA said that it wishes the referee a “speedy recovery” and added that it “strongly condemns any behaviour that puts any of our match officials at risk”.
