Everett the dog was named mayor of Reno earlier this month, as part of a promotional event for the Society of Prevention of Cruelty to Animals of Northern Nevada.
Although his duties were mostly ceremonial, the five-year-old Newfoundland/Labrador mix was officially signed in by sitting mayor Hillary Schieve for the day at the city's council chambers, and spent the day at some of the city's biggest landmarks.

Robert Stackaw and Lisa Rosen, who adopted Everett from the SPCA were also present, and will have a certificate to mark the day that Everett spent in charge of the city, while the dog himself will receive a cushy retirement package for his service -a dog bed, bowl, gift basket, and 60 pound bag of dog food.

The promotional stunt was in aid of the Affur to Remember event, which raises money to help the SPCA to re-home the thousands of animals that come through their doors every year.
