Questions are being raised about the suitability of the Phoenix Park as an outdoor venue to host music concerts.

It comes after a policing report into a controversial Swedish House Mafia concert last month found that the Dublin park is not a suitable venue for what Gardaí describe as “outdoor electric music concerts”.

The report also found that Gardaí warned the music promoters MCD before the gig that they had a number of concerns.

These included alcohol sales, gate opening times and stewarding.

But MCD has accused the Garda statement of being ‘unbalanced’ and is calling for an independent public inquiry to be carried out instead.

9 people were stabbed and dozens more were arrested during the gig on July 7th.

Journalist and broadcaster Una Mullally says there are wider societal reasons why violence erupted at this particular gig.
