Kenneth and Rita Boughey were found last night by their son

The PSNI are treating the deaths of a couple at a house in Ballycastle, Co Antrim as unexplained.

Kenneth (68) and Rita (79) Boughey were found at a house in the Abbey area at around 8:30pm last night by their son, who raised the alarm.

The couple had been living in Ballycastle for around 10 years but were originally from Liverpool.

Police said the couple had been dead for a number of weeks.

Detectives are investigating the possibility of carbon monoxide poisoning - but are keeping an open mind about what happened.

Chief Inspector Mark McClarence said: "The causes of the deaths have not been established and detectives are investigating the circumstances at present. At this time, the deaths are being treated as unexplained."

"The post mortems along with these ongoing enquiries will shape the investigation in the coming days," he added.
