A post-mortem is due to be carried out today after a body was found in a derelict house in Phibsboro, Dublin yesterday.

Gardaí say it may have gone undetected for some time.

The remains were found at a run-down house at Royal Canal Bank West in Phibsboro just after midday yesterday.

It’s believed the body may have gone undetected for a few months.

It was decomposed to such an extent that Gardaí weren’t even able to establish whether it was a man or woman.

The house was sealed off for a technical examination and the body was removed from the scene.

A post-mortem is due to be carried out later today and that will help establish the gender, and cause of death.

Gardaí don’t suspect foul play at this stage but are keeping an open mind.

They’re awaiting the results of the post-mortem and tests carried out at the scene before deciding what direction their investigation will take.

In the meantime, they are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
