With his comments promoting environmentalism and denouncing the excesses of consumer capitalism, Pope Francis has built up quite a bit of 'cool cred' since he took on the big hat in 2013.
But the pontiff has only gone and outdone himself by starring on a prog-rock album released on iTunes this week.
The Vatican, collaborating with European label Believe Digital, have made 'Wake Up!' freely available on the music store.
The songs feature bounding drums, ethereal synths and Gilmour-esque guitar licks played over a selection of the Pope's speeches in a variety of languages.
The stand-out single 'Wake Up!' is taken from a speech made to a South Korean audience:
“Wake up! Go! Go! Forward!” he says. “It is a duty to be vigilant, not to allow the pressures, the temptations and the sins to dull our sensibility of the beauty of holiness.”
Tony Pagliuca, an Italian muscician who helped to compose the album, told Rolling Stone magazine he experienced "an important journey of faith" after touring with prog-rock band Le Orme in the 1970s.
“Putting my music in the service of the words and the voice of Pope Francis has been a fantastic experience and a very interesting artistic challenge,” he said.
