The officer was shot after a suspect he was driving to prison in New Orleans was able to get out of his handcuffs and get hold of a gun.

Daryle Holloway was fired at while transporting 33-year-old Travis Boys, who'd been arrested for aggravated assault.

Officer Holloway died in hospital about half an hour later.

A search is underway for Boys, who's now wanted for murder.
