At a The Libertines’ concert in Birmingham, England earlier this week, a sticky-fingered man was allegedly found with 38 stolen mobile phones stuffed into his trousers.
The recently reformed rock band is currently starting a tour of the UK to promote a new album, and their show in Birmingham was targeted by suspected thieves, local police have said.
According to The Guardian, West Midlands Police arrested two 30-year-old men at the gig, one of whom had a total of 38 phones secreted in his trousers. Both men had used tape to secure the bottom of their trouser legs to prevent any of the phones slipping out as they fled the scene of the alleged crime.
"It’s an unfortunate reality that large crowds at concerts such as this make rich pickings for career criminals. We're hot on the heels of these offenders but you can also reduce your chances of falling victim to such crimes by remaining extra vigilant when attending busy events,” said Inspector Gareth Morris.
West Midlands Police is now advising anyone who was at the concert and who thinks that his or her phone may have been stolen at the venue to contact officers.
