A pedestrian has been killed after he was hit by a car in Co Offaly.

It happened at around 10.50am on Friday morning at Clonmeen Cross Road near Rhode Village.

The man, aged in his 50s, was pronounced dead at the scene - while another man in his 60s was taken to hospital with injuries.

The road has been closed and diversions are in place.

Forensic Crime Scene Investigators are at the scene and the local coroner has been notified.
