The chairman of the Public Accounts Committee says the gardaí need new systems to detect abuse of the penalty points system.
John McGuinness says the most recent allegations of abuse show how the current system isn't working.
The PAC is today considering its final report into the widespread cancellation of penalty points notices.
Deputy McGuinness says the system needs a total overhaul if penalty points are still being wrongly cancelled:
It was revealed earlier this month that garda whistleblower Maurice McCabe claims more points are being quashed for family and friends of members of the force.
Sergeant McCabe's original allegations that gardaí were routinely abusing their discretionary powers to remove points were upheld by the Guerin report in May.
