However for the past two days there have been two record figures registered for the past five months.

Thirty-eight people were being treated in Intensive Care Units on Monday night, according to the HSE.

That figure has remained stable for the past couple of days.

While the positivity rate among those who are tested for the coronavirus is now 6.2% - still well above the mark at which the World Health Organisation (WHO) says the spread of the disease is out of control.

More than 115,000 tests have been carried out here over the past seven days.

The national 14-day incidence rate per 100,000 people is now at just over 309.

Cavan still has the highest rate in the country - at 967.5 - with Tipperary keeping the lowest at 139.1.

Over the weekend, the figure saw a slight fall on Saturday - which was the first day in almost three weeks it had not risen.
