A number of the people behind the hit TV adaptation of Normal People are among this year's Emmy nominees.

Meanwhile, the original novel's author Sally Rooney and co-writer Alice Birch have both received a nod for their work on episode three of the show.

Irish casting director Louise Kiely has also received a nomination for her work on the 12-episode series.

Normal People proved a major hit following its release in April and May, with more than 300,000 viewers tuning in weekly in Ireland alone.

In May, director Lenny Abrahamson told Sean Moncrieff he welcomed controversy about the show, after being dubbed 'a promoter of fornication' on RTÉ's LiveLine.

This year's Emmy Awards will take place in September.

HBO superhero show Watchmen leads the pack with 26 nominations, followed by The Marvelous Mrs Maisel with 20, and Ozark and Succession with 18 nominations each.
