What is it like to attend a naturist camp?
As she aged, journalist Katy Regan decided that she wanted to become more comfortable with her body.
The 52 year old decided the perfect way to do that would be to attend a naturist camp, where she would encounter all sorts of bodies in their wrinkled and imperfect glory.
On Moncrieff, Ms Regan said she “could not have had better weather” for her nude holiday.
“It was absolutely glorious, so perfect for getting your kit off, if you’re so inclined,” she said.
Ms Regan continued that one of the “golden rules of naturism” is to put Factor 30 on the places that aren’t used to seeing the sun.
“I did that and all was well,” she said.
Overall, she felt the camp had the same vibe as “Butlins - but classier”.
“I was directed to the clubhouse and told to get into my uniform, which I realised very quickly meant into my birthday suit,” she said.
Still, she admitted she got a shock the first time she saw herself in a window.
“I was kind of in blissful ignorance until I caught sight of myself in one of the windows there,” she said.
“It's kind of funny how you don't judge everybody else at all.
“But I sort of judged myself; so, everyone was there in their full glory and didn't bat an eyelid.
“But kind of seeing yourself is quite confronting.”
Overall, the attendees were closer to retirement age than university.
“I met a couple of people who, for example, one lady who'd had a mastectomy,” Ms Regan said.
“I think she thought it was important to kind of show different bodies.
“I don't think that's why she got into naturism - it's all about body acceptance.
“But most people there, they just kind of like having no clothes on, really.”
