Is it true women only want to date good looking men?

Research suggests that women are much more selective about who they try and match with on dating apps.

One study found that while men swipe right for 47% of profiles on Tinder, for women that figure drops to just 14%.

So does that mean women are only prepared to date the most attractive men?

On Moncrieff, dating coach Frances Kelleher urged men to remember that romance is about far more than looks.

“I'm dealing with hundreds of people,” she said.

“You see patterns that emerge with dealing with men and women.

“The holy grail of dating is an emotional connection.

“The research shows that attraction is created through engagement.”

Ms Kelleher continued that attraction is “multilayered” and significantly influenced by a person’s behaviour.

“Is he pulling out the chair for me to sit down?” she said.

“What's his tone of voice like? It's all about the interaction.

“So, it's not about one thing, chemistry isn't just about the physical thing.”

As an example, Ms Kelleher noted that Julia Roberts married a camera man she met while on set for a film - hardly a Hollywood A Lister.

“A lot of guys that come to me, they're under the impression that they have to look like Brad Pitt or nobody will be interested or they have to drive the Ferrari, you know, and have the 10 million in the bank,” she said.

“So, I think it's a good thing; I always give the example of Julia Roberts - she Roberts is very happily married 25 years this year, I think.

“She dated A-level celebrities, they weren't making her happy.

“And she went for what's known in Hollywood as the ‘cameraman’ and he had no status, he was on way less money than her - she went for the soul connection.

“You need three things for a long lasting relationship; friendship, chemistry and shared values.

“And she went with that and she didn't care what people thought.”
