Morning top 5: Power-sharing talks in the North; New IRA blamed for bomb; 5 dead in Sudan

A window of opportunity has emerged for power-sharing talks in the North.

The Taoiseach and British Prime Minister have issued a joint statement overnight urging all parties to push ahead to try and reach agreement.

Tanaiste Simon Coveney and the Northern Secretary Karen Bradley are due to resume discussions with the five Stormont parties today with both governments urging all sides to intensify their efforts.

A joint statement from the British and Irish Governments last night welcomed recent constructive engagement in the talks.

The New IRA is being blamed for the bomb planted under a police officer's car in east Belfast.

The viable device was placed under his vehicle in the Shandon Golf Club on Saturday afternoon.

A cross-border investigation is under way into the incident.

Sunday Times investigative journalist John Mooney believes it was planted by dissident republicans, known as the New IRA.

It's claimed that at least five people have died in Sudan after security forces moved in against protesters who've been demanding an end to military rule.

Machine-gun fire and explosions on an anti-government sit in protest have been heard, outside the military headquarters in the capital Khartoum.

Tens of thousands of demonstrators have been camped in the city for weeks, as they call for the establishment of a civilian government.

Donald Trump has arrived in the UK for a three-day official state visit.

Air Force One landed at Stansted Airport in Essex.

During his trip the US President will meet the Royal Family, and discuss trade with Theresa May.

He will meet Theresa May tomorrow before travelling here to visit his golf club in Doonbeg in Co.Clare on Wednesday.

There's a been a backlash against UK Brexit Party MEP Ann Widdecombe who says science may "produce an answer" to homosexuality.

Stephen Fry's tweeted a question in response - "will science ever find an answer to Anne Widdecombe?".

Gay Labour MP Wes Streeting also "called her a relic".

Speaking yesterday, the former Tory minister says we shouldn't rule out the possibility that people who are confused about their sexuality can undergo change, and that science may produce an answer for this at some stage.
