A post-mortem examination is taking place today on the body of a man who was attacked in Tallaght.

On Saturday night, Vincent Parsons from Clondalkin was found with serious head injures in the Killinarden estate in west Dublin.

The 34-year-old was hospitalised after the attack, and he died last night.

A new report has found almost 40% of college students suffer from severe levels of anxiety, while 30% experience severe depression.

The report by the Union of Students in Ireland (USI) into the mental health of third level students here found one fifth feel they've no one to talk to about their personal difficulties.

It also found many students are having to rely on both on and off-campus services to support their mental health.

There's been a 4% increase this summer in the number of families struggling with the cost of education, according to a charity.

Last week, the Society of St Vincent de Paul took up to 300 calls per day from worried parents.

This increase comes after the charity reported a 20% jump in requests for help with schools costs last year.

The Health Minister says removing private practice from public hospitals is the right thing to do.

However, Simon Harris notes that an independent review group's proposal will be difficult to implement and more details are needed before a decision's made.

The report says ending the practice will cost the state €6.5 billion and take 10 years to put in place.

Parts of the Spanish capital Madrid have been hit by heavy rain, hail and floods.

Several metro stations and main roads had to be closed following the severe weather.

Around 50 vehicles are reported to have been destroyed.
