Joan Burton says she will increase the state pension every year for the next five years if she is still in government.

The Labour leader says the pension will be increased by €5 a week - saying it is the least that older people deserve.

The plan is set to cost just over €100 million a year every year.

Talks got underway in Geneva on Friday without opposition leaders. However, they then agreed to attend the UN sponsored talks from today, and have arrived in Switzerland.

But last night the umbrella group - the HNC - said it wanted the Assad regime to stop its crimes before negotiations go ahead.

At this stage it is not known if opposition leaders will be present for the talks today, or whether they will go ahead without them.
