The funeral of RTÉ broadcaster Marian Finucane will take place later.

The 69-year-old passed away suddenly at her home in Naas, Co Kildare last Thursday, with tributes pouring in since then.

President Michael D Higgins said she was a "deeply respected, trusted and much loved broadcaster."

Dublin city councillors will not be taking part in an upcoming commemoration event for the RIC and Dublin Metropolitan Police.

It is after they voted on Monday night, 38 to 10, to boycott the planned event on Friday week.

Several politicians have voiced their objections to it - with many pointing to the organisations' involvement with the 'Black and Tans.'

Gardaí are continuing to appeal for information after an attempted abduction in north Dublin.

It happened in the Martin's Grove/Blackhorse Avenue area of Cabra at about 7.30am  on Monday morning.

A woman in her 60s was approached by a man who tried to force her into the boot of a car.

The burial ceremony of General Qassem Soleimani, Iran’s most prominent military commander, is taking place in his home town of Kerman.

Soleimani, who was killed in a US airstrike last Friday near Baghdad airport, will be buried in the town's martyrs cemetery.

The fury generated by Soleimani's death in both Iran and Iraq has led to the US-led coalition scaling back its operations in Baghdad and to "reposition" troops after an order from Iraq's parliament.

A prolific rapist - who drugged young men before filming himself with them - has been jailed for life in the UK.

Reynhard Sinaga will serve at least 30 years for attacking 48 men in Manchester.

But police think the Indonesian student could have as many as 190 victims.
