Today

A dry start in the east, but rain already in the west will quickly spread to all areas this morning.

The rain will be heavy and persistent in places, with a risk of local flooding, especially in parts of the west, and it will be misty also.

Fresh to strong southerly winds veering southwesterly.

Cold at first, but becoming milder through the afternoon and evening with highs of 10 to 12 degrees.

Tonight

Mild, misty and mostly cloudy, with occasional rain and drizzle, persistent and locally heavy at times in Ulster and Connacht, but more patchy and intermittent elsewhere.

Minimum temperatures 7 to 10 degrees, in moderate to fresh southwesterly winds, strong on coasts.

National weather warning

A status yellow rainfall warning has been for Clare.

Rainfall accumulations combined with high river levels may result in further flooding.

The alert is valid until 5:00am on Tuesday.
