Met Éireann issues wind warnings for tonight and tomorrow

Met Éireann has issued a status orange wind warning for Atlantic coastal counties.

It is forecasting southwest to west winds with gusts of up to 130 kilometres per hour from tonight and through Monday.

The warning applies to counties Donegal, Sligo, Leitrim, Mayo, Galway, Clare, Limerick Cork and Kerry.

Winds will peak during Monday afternoon and evening and will be at their strongest along the coasts.

A status yellow wind warning has also been issued for Leinster, Cavan, Monaghan, Roscommon, Tipperary and Waterford.

Winds of between 45 and 65 km/h with gusts between 90 and 110 km/h are forecast during Sunday night and through Monday.

Both warnings come into effect from 10.00pm tonight and are valid until midnight on Monday.

A separate yellow warning for exceptional wave heights, possibly reaching 12 to 15 meters, has been issued for Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo, Sligo, Clare, Cork and Kerry, and is in effect from midday Monday.
