A woman found dead near an IPAS centre in Clifden leaves behind two young children.
Iranian woman Masuma Sohrabi was 31 years old and her body was found on Thursday by Gardaí.
It has been taken to Galway University Hospital, where it will undergo a post-mortem examination today.
“Essentially, she left the Waterloo House at 8pm on Wednesday and never returned,” John Hand of the Irish Sun explained on Newstalk Breakfast.
“She'd gone out for a walk and never came home before her body was discovered.”
A man in his 30s has been arrested and is receiving medical treatment ahead of questioning by Gardaí.
“He's been brought to hospital for his own for treatment, for his own injuries,” Mr Hand said.
“So his detention is suspended until Gardaí are given a go ahead from medics to question him.
“But they are not looking for anyone else in relation to the incident.”
Mr Hand added that the Garda investigation has proceeded at a “rapid” pace since Ms Sohrabi’s body was found.
“They have established that the victim knew the suspect, she had reported him to Gardaí and expressed fears for her safety previously,” he added.
It is understood that Ms Sohrabi moved to Ireland in 2024 with her young family in search of a better life.
“She'd settled very well into the community,” Mr Hand said.
“She'd worked in a local hotel and has two young children in a local primary school, one in junior infants and the other in first class.
“People are very saddened and stunned by it; there's two young children they're left behind without their Mam.”
