A Dublin man is facing life imprisonment after being found guilty of murdering his uncle in 2013.

David Cully of Kilsane Road in Finglas admited shooting Edward O'Connor in the back but denied murdering him during the 17-day trial at the Central Criminal Court.

After 8 hours and 40 minutes of deliberation, the jury returned a unanimous verdict of guilty - dismissing the defence's claims that Mr Cully had been provoked in to killing his uncle.

The Finglas man shot his uncle in uncle in the back as he walked away from a 'straightener' on the Ballycoolin Road in Decemeber 2013 but claimed that he fired the gun "in the heat of the moment" after the victim made a comment about his sister.

The 24 year old claimed that he had lost control as a result of the provocation and argued that he should face the lesser charge of manslaughter.

Prosecutors successfully claimed that it was premeditated because he had organised the fight that day and armed himself with a gun.

David Cully will be formally sentenced on July 29.
