A man has died in hospital following an alleged assault in Cork city last week.

It happened on Lower Oliver Plunkett Street at around 2pm on Thursday the 10th September.

The 37-year-old man was treated at the scene for his injuries and was then brought to Mercy University Hospital where he died yesterday.

A post mortem is being carried out this afternoon, Gardai say the results of which will determine the course of their investigation.
