A man has died after an alleged assault at a house in Swinford, County Mayo.

Gardaí were called to the house shortly after 11pm last night and the man, aged in his 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A man in his 30s has been arrested and taken to Castlebar Garda Station.

The body remains at the scene, which has been preserved for a technical examination. The State Pathologist has been notified.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone with any information on the death to come forward.

They are also interested in talking to anyone who witnessed any unusual activity in the Swinford area between 8pm and 11:15pm yesterday.
