A man who was injured in an altercation in the South William Street area of Dublin on Friday has died.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to the altercation between a group of men near Coppinger Row between 1:15am and 2:30am.

A garda spokesperson said one of the men, aged in his early 30s, later died from his injuries at his home.

Two men (aged in their 20s and 30s) have already been arrested as part of the investigation.

They have since been released without charge and a file is being prepared for the DPP.

An incident room has been established at Pearse Street Garda Station and the investigation is continuing under the direction of a Senior Investigating Officer (SIO).

A post-mortem examination has been carried out; however, the results are not being released for operational reasons.

Gardaí are urging anyone who was in the Coppinger Row/ South William Street areas between 1:15am and 2:30am on Friday and witnessed the altercation to contact them.

They are particularly interested in talking to anyone who may have camera footage, including dash-cam footage.
