A man has been arrested following the seizure of a gun Co. Louth.

Officers responded to a public order incident on Barrack Street in Dundalk at around 7pm yesterday evening when a man became violently aggressive.

Gardai searched a bag he was carrying and found it contained a firearm, which has been sent for forensic examination.

The man (33) is currently detained under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act at Dundalk Garda Station.

Six 'locking' knives were also seized during this incident.
