A man has been arrested following the death of a woman in her 40s.

On Monday morning, Gardaí were called out to a property on Melville Terrace, Finglas, Dublin 11.

The woman has been named locally as Loredana Morosanu and she is understood to be a Romanian national, originally from the city of Botoșani.

While the property was preserved for a forensic examination, Ms Morosanu’s body was taken to the City Morgue, Whitehall, where it is due to undergo a post-mortem examination.

On Newstalk Breakfast, Journal.ie reporter Eimear McAuley said Gardaí did not alert the media to Ms Morosanu’s death at first, as they searched for the suspect.

“A media blackout was in place over the next number of hours, while Gardaí tracked down a man that they suspected was connected to the incident,” she explained.

“He was arrested in the wider Finglas area at around 11am and remains in Garda custody.”

While Ms Morosanu had lived in Dublin for some time, she was not well known in the local area, having only moved into the property on Melville Terrace a few weeks ago.

“She'd lived and worked in Dublin for around a decade, it's understood,” Ms McAuley said.

“She worked in a local pharmacy and her social media profiles can show her going on holidays and [announcing] that she was engaged in January of this year.

“It's understood that she lived in another part of Finglas prior to that and that it's believed that she had been subject to different incidents that suggest that she was being targeted in the weeks leading up to her death as well.”

Gardaí are looking to speak to anyone who was in the Melville Terrace area between midnight on Sunday and 5am on Monday. They are especially keen to talk to anyone who has dashcam footage.
