A secondary school teacher has described L’Oréal’s decision to hire an OnlyFans performer as “really concerning” to market makeup, given the brand’s popularity among teenage girls.

Eoghan Cleary is a teacher in County Wicklow and currently working on a research problem with the Sexual Exploitation Research and Policy Institute.

On Moncrieff, he explained why he worries so much about the exposure of girls and young women to sexual content.

“Teen girls are being targeted with this stuff by the algorithm on TikTok and it's normalising it and glamourising it for them,” he said.

“L'Oreal has hired one extremely successful OnlyFans creator, to be their brand ambassador for a line of makeup that does target younger women, including teenage girls.

“They are absolutely mainstreaming this idea that your value is based on what you can provide sexually for others.”

Mr Cleary added that some young people are coming away with the false impression that OnlyFans is a gateway to riches, when in fact the financial returns are usually low.

“There are currently four million women working on OnlyFans and they're making an average of less than €137 a month, which is almost nothing,” he said.

“It's basically €1,600 a year.

“If you get into the top 1% of OnlyFans earners, you're still only earning €2,200 a month, which is actually less than minimum wage in Ireland.

“You have to get up into the 0.01% of OnlyFans earners to be earning what is being glamorised and normalised for these girls.”

Mr Cleary added that in order to become successful, many of these women end up performing acts that are “very degrading, very violent, torturous activity involving pain”.

L’Oréal has been contacted for comment.
