A woman from County Longford living in New York was fatally stabbed in a bar, according to the New York Police Department (NYPD).

She was taken to Elmhurst Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.

It is understood the man who attacked Ms McNally then stabbed himself. He remains in hospital in critical condition.

Police say the incident was “domestic” in nature.

Longford Municipal District Cathaoirleach Councillor Martin Monaghan said “our thoughts and prayers are with the family at the minute at this tragic time”.

“We’d be hoping the Longford community in New York would rally around and help the family in need at the minute,” he said.

NYPD said investigations are ongoing.

The Department of Foreign Affairs has been contacted for comment.
