Gardaí want to speak to a 28-year-old man after a mother was found dead in Killarney. 

The woman has been named locally as Jamey Carney; she was an American in her 40s and was originally from Westchester County, north of New York City. 

She had been living in Killarney since May 2021 and her body was discovered yesterday morning. 

Gardaí pronounced her dead at the scene and her body has been taken to University Hospital Kerry for a post-mortem examination. 

It is expected that the findings will lead to a murder investigation. 

“They are looking for an individual, a 28-year-old man, who was known to Ms Carney and who was known to have been in her company on Monday,” Ralph Riegel of the Irish Independent told Newstalk Breakfast.  

“Gardaí are hoping to speak with this individual as part of their inquiries.” 

Officers have also asked any members of the public who were in the area around the time of Ms Carney’s death to contact Killarney Garda Station. 

“They [want to speak to] that anyone who was in the Homeland area of Killarney, now that's a lovely estate just off the Muckross Road,” Mr Riegel said. 

“Anyone who was in that area from Sunday evening through Monday into Tuesday morning [should] contact them. 

“They're particularly interested in anyone whose vehicle was equipped with dash cam footage.

“So, they've appealed for people to come forward and contact them.”
