A man in his 20s has died after he was attacked in the early hours of Sunday in Kildare town. 

The young man was found at 3.15 in the morning on McGee Terrace and taken to hospital, where he later passed away. 

The coroner has been notified and a post-mortem will be carried out in due course. 

 “For people who might not be familiar with Kildare town, McGee Terrace, that’s actually right beside the Garda Station in the town,” reporter Emily Keegan explained to Newstalk Breakfast. 

“He was brought to Naas General Hospital where he was treated for serious injuries and he has since passed away. 

“It was confirmed by Gardaí overnight.” 

So far, there have been no arrests but Ms Keegan added that “rumours are, of course, flying” in the local area. 

Gardaí have asked anyone with any information to contact Kildare Garda Station. 

They are particularly keen to talk to people who were in the area between 2 and 4am on Sunday.
