A communion dress, Katie Taylor’s gloves, a euro calculator and the Anglo sign.

These are all objects on display at the National Museum of Ireland in Collins Barracks as part of the Irish Times “History of Ireland in 100 Objects” series.

The Irish Times tells us that some 99 objects have already been chosen for the exhibition, and the public have been asked to choose the last one for a list of 100 modern day symbols of Ireland.

Voters can either vote in person or online at 100objects.ie. Some suggestions we’ve already received by the public today are:

  • Get a item from the time the Irish troops served in the Congo they brought back a lot of souvenirs with them.
  • I have an exhibit for that 100 objects exhibition. Found & kept an Anglo Irish Bank branded Titleist golf ball found in Druids Heath Golf Club, venue for Seanie & Brian Cowen’s famous lunch meeting. Who knows, it might have been Seanies ball.
  • Picture of the word ‘Government’ holding 64 BILLION EURO CASH as they are about to place in a REFUSE BIN…!!
  • A piece of jelly with the word “politician” in it along the back?
  • The one hundredth item to be placed in the museum should be Charlie Haughy’s cheque book…
  • Brown envelope!
  • A modern Ireland symbol – the take -away coffee.
  • They have to have a plane ticket to Australia in there.
  • A German puppet?
  • One of Charles Haughey’s expensive shirts would be great as the 100th.
  • For the 100th item, a painting of Brian Cowen going for a pee.
  • Berties canary yellow suit.
  • I propose that the e-voting machines should be the 100th object and can be positioned near the exit of the exhibit and people could use them to vote for their favourite object as they leave.

What would your object of Ireland be? Let us know below…
